Sex/Life recently premiered on Netflix and has exploded in popularity with legions of fans sharing their love for the show on social media. The drama follows Billie Connelly, a married mum-of-two that decides to embrace her past, adventurous life. But who stars in the show?
Who plays Billie Connelly in Sex/Life?
Sex/Life has made a name for itself as one of the steamiest shows on TV, with Netflix releasing the show last month.
Fans have been sharing all the details of the show on social media, with certain scenes from the first season becoming must-see moments.
Billie Connelly is at the heart of the show, juggling a love triangle that will set her life on a new collision course with tragedy.
Sarah Shahi stars in the role, an American actress who has featured in numerous film and TV projects.
Before Sex/Life, her most recent TV role came in The Rookie, where she starred as Jessica Russo during the second season of the series.
Shahi, 41, has also starred in shows such as City on a Hill, Reverie, Chicago Fire and The Oversharer.
The star’s next big project is DC’s Black Adam, where she will feature alongside Dwayne Johnson who is playing the title character.
The film is a spin-off of Shazam, which was released in 2019 and is set within the DCEU, the shared universe of movies.
Shahi recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to discuss the role of Billie and how she felt portraying the character.
She also detailed how she felt about having the intimate scenes of the show filmed from Billie’s perspective.
Shahi explained: “Well, to be totally honest with you, I was a bit scared and a bit turned on at the same time.
“Emotionally, I was going to have to go to some pretty raw, vulnerable places that I hadn’t had the opportunity to do on screen before, and physically, it was a very revealing side of myself.
“The camera certainly lingers on the men for a couple of seconds longer than it lingers on me. And a lot of times, sex scenes are compliant to whatever it is that the male wants, but this time, it’s the other way around.”
Shahi also gave some insight on her upcoming role in Black Adam, which is the biggest production the star has been involved with so far in her career.
“I play a character named Adrianna, and she’s a freedom fighter that’s leading this big resistance against an evil, malicious group called Intergang,” Shahi told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m Middle Eastern; I’m Persian. And there’s not a lot of Middle Eastern representation out there… There are other Middle Eastern actors that I know who are either getting cast in terrorist roles or they’re really being stereotyped by how they look.
“So, I’m hoping that, on some level, Black Adam will help break open that stereotype.”
Season one of Sex/Life ended with a shock, as Billie made a decision to upend the life she had built for herself over the past 20 years.
Currently, Netflix has not renewed the show for a second season, however, this is typical for the streaming platform immediately after the release of a season.
Word on season two will likely come in the next few months, as the show has risen to the top of the Netflix charts since it debuted.
Sarah Shahi would be back as Billie, addressing the cliff-hanger at the end of season one.
Moving forward, Billie will have to account for the decisions she made in the first season and will either embrace her new life or return to her old one.
Sex/Life is available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
