Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer welcomed comedian and actress Aisling Bea onto Sunday Brunch this weekend. The Channel 4 presenting duo interviewed the actress about her most recent career successes, including her BAFTA win and the release of her sitcom This Way Up. However, things got a bit too much for Aisling when she started to explain how fond she is of her co-star Sharon Horgan.

The Irish comedian had to hold back tears during her interview on Sunday Brunch when she became emotional speaking about her beloved co-star.

Aisling won the Breakthrough Talent gong at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards 2020 and earned the accolade for writing her hit Channel 4 sitcom This Way Up.

The comedy-drama stars Aisling as Aine, a whip-smart teacher who’s trying to pull her life back together after a nervous breakdown.

Sharon Horgan not only stars alongside Aisling in the series but plays her older sibling.

While chatting about the show’s success on Sunday Brunch, Aisling admitted Sharon is also like a sister to her in real life.

The actress credited Sharon for having supported her in her own career journey.

Presenter Simon quizzed the star, saying: “Working with Sharon, I mean she plays your sister, but you always say that she is – you are like sisters.”

Aisling replied: “Yes. I mean, I have a younger sister, but she’s definitely like a big sister to me and a mentor.

“I mean I wouldn’t be the writer or – oh god, I almost got emotional – without Sharon.

“She’s so good on the show. She’s brilliant. Sorry I just got emotional. I’ve got emotional,” Aisling said as she fought back tears.

Recognising that the comedian was struggling to continue, Sunday Brunch presenter Tim swiftly moved on to another subject.

This episode was Aisling’s fifth appearance on the Channel 4 show and as a result, Tim and Simon gave her a treat.

The pair presented her with her very own silver Sunday Brunch mug to mark the occasion.

Many Sunday Brunch viewers were pleased to see her on the show again and took to Twitter to praise the star.

One fan wrote: “Aisling seems so lovely and down to earth. What a lovely lady #sundaybrunch,

“Perfect guest , everytime I see her I always end up happier and laughing,” another added.

A third agreed, commenting: “Love this lady, such a talent and so funny.”

Meanwhile, others tweeted about their excitement to see Sharon and Aisling team up once more for season two of This Way Up.

One viewer remarked: “Can’t wait for the new ‘This Way Up’, @SharonHorgan.”

Another added: “So excited for series 2 of this way up. With Aisling Bea & Sharon Horgan it’s going to be absolute gold.”

Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 9:30am on Channel 4.
