Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) has been under an immense amount of stress in Emmerdale as of late — much of which can be attributed to the affair she had with farmhand Nate Robinson (Jurrell Carter) — but she received even more bad news in tonight’s episode, as Nate revealed that he’s going to run Wylie’s farm — a revelation which resulted in her drowning her sorrows.
It’s been a tough couple of years for Moira, but — in spite of her relationship with Cain (Jeff Hordley) being on the rocks last year — she was able to reconcile with her husband, and they started afresh once more. However, her world was turned upside down when farmhand Nate showed up, and proved to be a thorn in her side.
In addition to providing her with plenty of farming problems, she soon found herself unable to resist Nate’s charm, and thus the pair began to engage in a steamy affair — which lasted several months. However, Faith’s (Sally Dexter) meddling was the catalyst that revealed everything, as Cain set out to destroy the farmhand.
Before Cain managed to exact his murderous revenge, Nate dropped a bombshell when he revealed that he was Cain’s long-lost son, and that he’d simply been sleeping with Moira in an effort to get revenge on his dad.
Moira’s world has crumbled before her very eyes as a result of this revelation and tonight she received even more bad news when Nate revealed that he’s taken over the lease at Wylie’s farm — which not only means that he’ll be staying put, but also that he and Moira will more or less be neighbours.
A devastated Moira ended up in The Woolpack where she attempted to drown her sorrows, but Nate — desperate to make Moira understand his motives for sticking around — showed up and attempted to make amends.
An upset Moira stared at the glass in front of her, before downing in it in one go.
Nate’s presence in the village is a constant reminder of everything that’s she’s lost as a result of her affair, and having him working close by will no doubt add to the stress that she’s already under.
Yes, Moira lost everything, as Cain ended their marriage — and also slept Kerry (Laura Norton) in an attempt to highlight how he’s over her. If that wasn’t bad enough, he’s attempted to prevent her from seeing her own kids, and had outright banned her from stepping foot anywhere near Kyle.
With the owner of Butler’s farm struggling to cope, will she turn to drink in an attempt to escape the pressures?
Earlier in the episode, Pete (Anthony Quinlan) attempted to console Moira, who revealed that she’d had several drinks the night before after Cain stumbled upon Nate at her place, so it’s possible that the farmer is beginning to become reliant on the booze.
If this does prove to be the case, then will someone notice the signs and thus help Moira through her difficult time?
With Cain out of her life — coupled with the fact that she’s public enemy number one after cheating on him — Moira has very little people looking out for her right now, so she could certainly do with a friend.
Emmerdale continues Monday 2nd December at 7pm on ITV.
