Strictly Come Dancing: Annabel performs the Charleston

Annabel Croft sparked concern among viewers as she and Johannes Radebe opened tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Fans noticed that Annabel had made a few “mistakes” when performing Ladies Night by Kool & The Gang.

Taking to social media, one wrote: “Annabel was a lot better than in rehearsals, but I agree with Craig. I could see her trying with the swivel, but she didn’t quite get it. But she is improving and her cartwheel and splits were impressive. 6 from me. (don’t know where Anton got that 8 from) #StrictlySpoiler.” (sic)

Whilst another penned: “Couple of little errors but not a bad start – I just want #Annabel to let go!! #Strictly.” (sic)

But not everyone loved the dance, with one fan of the show writing: “I am almost afraid to say it but this Charleston was a bit boring #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”

Fans also believed the duo were underscored by the judges despite scoring 27 points.

Anton du Beke appeared to love the performance, telling Annabel: “I always really really love your dancing because it’s as clean as a whistle.

“Your points would have been sky high if it wasn’t for those couple of moments there where you were a little ‘ooo hello what’s going on. “But other than that it was just terrific.”

Although Craig Revel Horwood disagreed, saying: Sadly there was no swivel in there to speak of, you got out of time three times and for me it was all too placed and too neat.”

Before speaking over the boos to say: “I want to see the wild and untamed side of this dance.

“I think you could’ve gone a lot further with that, but on a positive note darling, it’s probably one of the chicest Charleston’s I think I’ve seen.”

“I am shocked at those scores! Especially Craig’s 5. I thought Annabel and Johannes were brilliant tonight,” one fan said on social media.

Another wrote: “Proves what I said about the judges being over critical of Annabel and Craig underscoring her when Nigel kicks his partner and loses the steps yet Craig scores him higher !! judges are a joke.” (sic)

And a third said: “Sorry but Nigel was not 2 points better than Annabel.” (sic)

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
