The Great British Bake Off 2018 history-making week 2: Who was crowned Star Baker, and who was sent home?

After last week’s Great British Bake Off mixed things up by doing Biscuit Week first, we are now onto the classic Cake Week, and it certainly did not disappoint.

The first task was to make 12 identical slices, and one contestant’s bake didn’t impress in the looks department, but we did see Dan get the first Hollywood Handshake of the series so far:

The innuendos haven’t slipped this week, either:

Meanwhile, our breakout star of the series Karen asked a pretty silly question in her VT:

Jon won the technical challenge before the bakers were presented with their showstopper: a multi-tiered cake with a collar (on a hot day and all, the jokes write themselves).

We had a variety of incredible-sounding creations, from salted caramel vodka cream, a cat-themed cake and even folk song lyrics around the collar.

But Manon might have had the best idea, with little baked versions of Noel Fielding and a “****ed off” Sandi Toksvig.

Yup, swearing! On Bake Off!You wouldn’t have that on the BBC version (Mel and Sue saw to that).

After sweating away in the tent, judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith crowned Rahul as their Star Baker, while Luke was sent home.

Meanwhile, Rahul got the first ever Hollywood Handshake for a showstopper, and THEN Ruby got the second!

Remember, people, this is week two. Is Paul being too nice, or are these just the best contestants we’ve ever had? To be fair, he did admit he is disappointed with himself.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday (September 11) at 8pm on Channel 4 with… Bread Week!
