Tony Adams was saved by the public for the third week in a row as Matt Goss lost his place in the competition after competing against Kym Marsh in the dance-off. After being told he was saved, Tony opened up on his “brutal” Strictly Come Dancing experience so far with partner Katya Jones.

Claudia Winkleman began: “Now, Tony, next week we’ve got a brand new themed week celebrating 100 years of the BBC.

“Everyone is dancing to a different theme tune or something related.”

The Strictly presenter revealed Tony and Katya would be dancing a Cha Cha to the theme tune of iconic sport programme Grandstand.

“What does that theme tune mean to you?” Claudia asked.

“The Grandstand? Oh my god it was iconic, wasn’t it?” Tony replied.

“You’ve been in the competition now four weeks, every Monday totally clean slate,” Claudia continued.

“Are you beginning to relish that or are you like, ‘No Katya I like that dance can we just do that one again?’”

The footballing legend said: “It’s tough. When I was a footballer we’d do an hour a day and then just kicked a ball about on the weekends.”

“But this is brutal,” he added before referencing his American Smooth. “The freckles are whatever you call them that I did yesterday…”

“Fleckerls,” Claudia corrected as Tony’s Strictly co-stars saw the funny side of his mistake.”

Tony finished week four third from bottom of the leaderboard.

His American Smooth received 26 points from the judges while Will Mellor and Nancy Xu’s Rumba was given a score of 23.

Down at the bottom, Matt and Nadiya Bychkova’s Jive received just 20 points.

Both Will and Tony were saved by the pubic as Kym found herself in the dance-off despite finishing in fifth position on the leaderboard.

Her and Graziano Di Prima’s Samba received an impressive 32 points from the judges.

Meanwhile, Matt broke down in tears on Sunday after being eliminated from the competition.

Praising her partner, Nadiya said: “First I’m so grateful that I got to teach and dance with a music icon. But, more important than this, I got the privilege to get to know Matt, for who you really are.

“Not many people know you and you’re a beautiful soul, very kind human and a real gentleman.”

Wiping tears away, Matt replied: “I’m sorry I’m emotional, I’m an emotional person.

“I wish my mum was here and my sister was here but the British public have really made me feel really welcome so thank you for welcoming me back after 25 years.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One on Saturday at 6.30pm.
