What happened to Shona Ramsey on Coronation Street ahead of character’s exit

Coronation Street could be preparing for another shock death, with Shona Ramsey's fate yet to be confirmed.

The character is currently on life support in hospital, after she was shot by Derek on Christmas Day.

After undergoing an operation, she began to bleed out leading to her suffering a cardiac arrest.

With her brain being starved of oxygen for a short time, there is now concern she may have suffered brain damage – with her not yet able to breath on her own.

What happened to Shona?

Shona Ramsey was shot during the Christmas Day siege, as a gunman headed into the Winter Wonderland and began firing during a showdown with Gary Windass – Gary was also shot, with Robert Preston shot and killed.

She'd been hiding in a giant present box, waiting for her husband David Platt to find her.

Shona was rushed to hospital and learned she needed to undergo surgery, but she suffered complications in theatre.

The character was placed on life support after suffering a cardiac arrest, due to her body not being able to cope with the amount of blood loss.

Doctors are now unsure if she will regain consciousness, with her not yet able to breathe without the help of the ventilator.

Does Shona die on Corrie?

Shona's fate has not been revealed, with it not clear if the character will pass away.

In a couple of weeks time, doctors will reattempt to remove Shona's breathing tube but it's not known if she will pull through.

With the character set to make an exit very soon, fans fear she will be killed off.

Is Shona leaving the soap?

Shona will be departing the ITV soap, but it's not confirmed if this is a temporary or permanent exit.

Actress Julia Goulding, who plays her, is currently on maternity leave after welcoming her baby son in November.

Given Shona's condition, it's not clear how she will leave and whether she will return.

The actress recently teased on Lorraine that she would be back after a brief break, but this is not confirmed by the soap.

Whatever happens, it's bound to be heartbreaking.
