Outlander fans are waiting on tenterhooks for season six which is set to release on Starz later this year. In the meantime, they have World Outlander Day to celebrate the franchise with. But why is June 1 put aside for Outlander?
Why is June 1 Outlander Day? What is Outlander Day?
For Outlander fans, June 1 is one of the most important days of the year as it represents a very special day for Outlander history.
June 1 was the day that the original novel in the series was released by author Diana Gabaldon.
World Outlander Day is now celebrated yearly to recognise the franchise’s impact and importance for fans, both across the novels and television series.
The date also comes with special events or news for the franchise and this year is no different, with the cast all getting together to release a video supporting the series.
In the video, many members of the main cast can be seen celebrating World Outlander Day, including Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna Randall Fraser in the series.
In the video, she says: “On this day, I just want to say thank you very much to our fans because we don’t just throw it out there when we say that we have the best fans.
“It really is the Outlander Fan-mily,” she continues.
Also featured in the video is Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Randall, who adds: “It’s crazy that we have our own day!”
“Who did that? Was there a competition? What do you have to do? Do you have to like fight other people to get that day?”
Like the rest of the cast, she also expressed how grateful she is to the fans and that she continues to appreciate all their support, saying: “We have the most amazing fans, I’m very grateful.”
The original video was shared on Twitter and quickly amassed over 6,000 likes in just a few hours.
Many fans took to the comments to share the love for Outlander, all coming together in celebration of the franchise.
One fan said: “Re-watching S5 yesterday & thought to myself– I really miss these characters & #Outlander’s BRILLIANT ability to evoke emotions. Can’t wait to see S6! #WorldOutlanderDay.”
Another fan added: “Thank YOU to everyone who works so hard to bring us the show! But the biggest thanks goes to @Writer_DG for writing that “practice book” which was published on June 1, 1991!”
A third said: “Happy #WorldOutlanderDay #BESTFANSEVER 7years together,they are a long dream that I wish would never end THANKS #OutlandeSTARZ THANKS @Writer_DG @caitrionambalfe @SamHeughan THANKS TO ALL.”
Outlander’s popularity is in no signs of slowing down, with broadcaster Starz confirming season seven months ahead of season six’s release – making the announcement on March 14, 2021.
The plots for both seasons six and seven are still unknown, with many fans hoping for more details on season six in the coming weeks.
The release date is still unconfirmed, though the new season is expected to drop later this summer.
There hasn’t been a trailer for season six yet either, however, there have been many behind-the-scenes videos shares, including this new one on World Outlander Day.
The video, unfortunately, didn’t give fans any new information on the series but it was the perfect way to get them excited for the upcoming season.
Outlander is available to watch on Starz and Amazon Prime Video.
