YOU'D be hard to find someone who didn't know who broadcaster Jeremy Paxman was, thanks to his long career in TV.

In August 2022 he announced he would be stepping down as host of University Challenge after nearly 30 years.

Who is Jeremy Paxman?

Jeremy was born in Leeds on May 11, 1950 – that ma++kes him 72.

He joined the BBC in 1972, initially at BBC Radio Brighton, although he relocated to London in 1977.

In coming years, he worked on Tonight and Panorama before becoming a newsreader for the BBC Six O'Clock News and later a presenter on Breakfast Time.

Jeremy has three children with former partner Elizabeth Ann Clough – the pair amicably separated in 2016 after 35 years together.

In 1989, Jeremy became a presenter for BBC Two's Newsnight, during which he interviewed a wide range of political figures.

Does Jeremy Paxman have Parkinson's disease?

In May 2021, Jeremy revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

He said in a statement at the time: "I can confirm I have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. I am receiving excellent treatment and my symptoms are currently mild.

"I plan to continue broadcasting and writing for as long as they'll have me."

He wrote in a column due to be printed in Saga magazine: "I will not pretend that being diagnosed with an incurable brain disease is fun.

"But it could be worse. I have at least the consolation of being in the enjoyable company of people like Billy Connolly and Alan Alda.

"I am lucky to have understanding family, friends and colleagues, and I am also fortunate in seeing the funny side of unexpectedly falling over."
