Does Rip die in season 3 of Yellowstone?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Yellowstone season 3

Rip and Beth’s romance has featured quite prominently in season three as it appeared the troubled financier was finally opening up her heart.

Beth even presented Rip with a ring to show she was serious about a future with him.

But given the pair now seem happy together, only disaster and tragedy can be on the cards with some wondering if Rip could meet his maker sooner rather than later.

For the moment, it looks like Rip is very much alive and part of the show but depending on the direction of the story, there’s nothing to suggest he might not get bumped off.

As Rip is a big character, it would be a shame to lose him and any narrative decisions would really have to serve the plot.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hauser teased what fans could expect in the third outing: “You see a little bit further into their [Rip and Beth’s] hearts and how they feel about each other.

“I’m hoping the audience enjoys more of us and that relationship.

“Because I think Kelly and I worked really hard on making sure this dynamic [is] smart but there’s also these really wonderful playful moments that have. So I’m really excited to see what the audience thinks.”

Rip is very much part of the Dutton clan after he was taken in by patriarch John (Kevin Costner) at a young age.

As a teen, Rip murdered his abusive step-father, leading the locals to call on John to try and sort out the adolescent.

John took Rip into his employment, telling him there was a “price” to pay for working for the ranch and warned him of “pain”.

However, the teen simple responded and told John he was used to pain before joining the Duttons.

While Josh Lucas, who portrays the young version of John explained: “The power of what happens between the two of them – because Rip instantly knows this guy can save his life and save his life for the rest of his life.”

The actor added: “Rip immediately feels he will do anything for John.”

Their words make it clear Rip very much has a ride or die attitude towards John, making him willing to die for his boss.

If Rip did die in Yellowstone, it would either be while working for John or for his love Beth.

In some ways Rip is almost like part of the family and his loss would be felt keenly both by the Duttons and fans of Yellowstone.
