As fans await the return of the anticipated fourth season of drama series Yellowstone on Paramount, star Jefferson White has dropped a few major hints about the future of his character. The actor explained that a major secret from season one could possibly mean the character’s departure in the future.
Paramount Network’s Yellowstone has been running for three seasons and the series was renewed last year for a fourth.
The neo-western drama series looks set for a dramatic new season, especially after the shocking season three cliffhanger.
Star Jefferson White, who portrays ranch hand and amateur bronc rider Jimmy, spilled a few details on what viewers can expect for his character going forward.
White discussed the show on an episode of the behind-the-scenes series Stories from the Bunkhouse on YouTube.
In season one, Jimmy befriended Fred Myers (played by Luke Peckinpah) after the two initially butted heads.
However, after being fired by Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) for disobeying orders, Fred was escorted to the train station and he was later killed by senior ranch hand Lloyd Pierce (Forrie J. Smith).
Joining co-stars Ian Bohen and Denim Richards, actor White hinted on the YouTube show that Lloyd’s betrayal could mean the end for his beloved character.
He said: “I don’t think Jimmy knows what it means to go to the train station.”
White stated Jimmy believes that Fred just got fired and then walked away.
“Would you continue to work on a ranch where, if you f***ed up, they killed you?” Jimmy asked Ian and Denim.
Denim quickly responded: “Where else are you going to go?”
Ian also believed that Fred “was against what the ranch was doing here. He’s not part of what we’re doing here”.
Jimmy and Fred did sometimes have a contentious relationship and the latter once beat the other quite badly.
However, White acknowledged: “I just think that Jimmy couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing that Fred was killed for beating him up.”
Jimmy will also struggle greatly when he disovers that it was Lloyd who carried out the murder as he is the ranch hand’s mentor and close friend.
Speaking in another behind-the-scenes clip about his character, White said: “I think for Jimmy it is tremendously meaningful for Lloyd to take the time and energy to try to teach him.
“Lloyd sticks around and that means the world to Jimmy.”
Lloyd actor Smith remarked: “It’s gratifying, I get to share some of my wisdom with Jimmy.”
White’s character doesn’t have much family so he has been consistently searching for a father figure on the ranch so, discovering that Lloyd murdered a friend of his, will undoubtedly destroy him.
Will Jimmy learn the truth in season four?
White previously spoke to Decider about the growth of his character over the last four seasons.
He stated that, as the series progresses, Jimmy is continually learning about the “deadly consequences” of betraying the people at Yellowstone, adding: “He’s just figuring out what he signed up for.
“He realises that he has to choose between his life in the rodeo and his life on the ranch.”
Yellowstone season four premieres on Paramount Network later this year.
