Comedian Alan Carr’s other half Paul Drayton, 46, has revealed he caused his own black eye by punching himself in the face after “falling off the wagon”. Paul left some of his Instagram followers worried last night when he posted a photo of the bruise he had sustained during a drinking binge, telling a fan: “We had a bad row.”

Paul promptly removed the photo within an hour of posting it and insisted that Alan “would not and has never” hit him.

He penned on his Instagram Stories: “I’m feeling very fragile at the minute and would like to say that Alan would not and has never hit me.

“And I’m devastated that he has to deal with this today.”

Paul, who has struggled with alcoholism in the past, later confirmed that he punched himself in the face “because I hate myself”.

He told MailOnline: “I punched myself in the face because I hate myself. There was no fight.

“The Instagram post was just a joke, that’s all.”

Paul also revealed he had “fallen off the wagon”, but is now getting help.

He continued: “I bet a lot of people are wondering what it’s all about but I’m getting the help I need.”

While speaking at his house in West London, Paul was joined by an elderly woman who did not identify herself.

She added: “We are getting help for Paul from the people that matter.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Alan for comment.

Following Paul’s shocking post, Alan, 45, said he was not responsible for his other half’s black eye.

The comedian explained to The Sun that Paul had started drinking again.

Paul previously went into rehab following the couple’s wedding in 2018.

Alan told the publication: “While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again.

“When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge.

“We are now working together to get the help he needs to get better which is our number one priority right now.”

Three days prior to sharing the photo of himself with a black eye, Paul had posted a photo where he was pictured with vomit on his T-shirt.

He wrote alongside the photo: “This is what alcoholism does to you.

“My gorgeous husband took this pic.”

Alan and Paul, who have been in a relationship for over 14 years, tied the knot in a romantic wedding at their friend Adele’s home in Los Angeles.
