Bill Nye marries Liza Mundy after couple met via email when ex-journalist mentioned Science Guy's mom in her book | The Sun

THE beloved "Science Guy" Bill Nye and author Liza Mundy have said their I Do's after meeting via email when the ex-journalist mentioned the scientist's mom in her book.

Nye, 66, and Mundy, 61, wedded in late May at the Castle Building's Haupt Garden at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, PEOPLE reported.

The former Washington Post reporter and the Science Guy met after Mundy mentioned Nye's mom, Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye, in her book Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War II.

Nye sent an email to Mundy, and a relationship blossomed.

On their special day, Star Trek actor Robert Picardo served as officiant.

The couple wrote their vows, which sources described to PEOPLE as "equal parts moving and comical."

Exclusive pictures obtained by PEOPLE showed Nye sporting a classic dark tuxedo with a bow tie and cufflinks with small blue stones in the center that belonged to his father.

Mundy wore a satin sleeveless gown with a mermaid hemline and a jeweled belt at the waist that shimmered against her colorful bouquet.

The couple's first dance was to Sam Cooke's version of "What a Wonderful World," with the bride switching into sparkling sneakers for the reception.

Among the friends and family there for the special occasion were Mundy's daughter Anna and Nye's brother Darby, as well as his friends of more than 50 years Brian.

Famed Obama White House photographer Pete Souza captured the wedding images.
