British adults typically spend 30 hours a month glued to their mobile phones, making 152 calls and sending 262 texts.
A Vodafone poll of 2,000 people also found that, on average, they exchange 149 emails.
WhatsApp (58 per cent), phone calls (48 per cent) and SMS messages (28 per cent) were the most popular ways to contact friends and family.
The most common reasons for getting in touch included ‘checking in to say hi’ (45 per cent), sharing life updates (30 per cent) and arranging meet-ups (28 per cent).
The most popular time of day for conducting electronic conversations was between 6pm and 7pm.

Vodafone says the study shows the importance of connectivity across the UK, and comes as the company unveils ‘The Connected Skyline’, a pop-up art installation on London’s South Bank.
The 20ft-long, 10ft-high piece was created from nearly a ton of recycled tech, network equipment and SIM cards by artist and sculptor Alex Wright, who has been making art from waste materials for more than 35 years.
It features landmarks including The Shard, Big Ben and Battersea Power Station.
Brixton-based Mr Wright said: ‘Getting to re-imagine some of London’s most iconic landmarks using recycled tech has been a lot of fun.’
