Police in Alabama said they identified a person of interest in the shooting death of a college-bound teen girl.
Casey Nicole Kizer, 17, was shot and killed just before midnight July 25 in Sylacauga industrial park, news station WBRC reported.
Her friend reportedly called 911 to report the shooting and told dispatchers they were en route to the hospital.
Kizer was pronounced dead at Coosa Valley Medical Center.
Officials said Thursday they identified a person of interest in the homicide but are waiting for forensic results before releasing more information, Sylacauga News reported.
“We’re just staying busy putting things together,” Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson told the news site.
Kizer was a softball player and recently graduated Valleydale Christian Academy, according to her obituary. She was set to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the fall.
