Colson got seriously into running during the first lockdown in 2020, with the goal of losing weight. Despite going on to lose an incredible 10 stone, he still faces an ongoing “battle” with himself over the way he used to look.

The Corrie star expressed that he was keen to tell his own story in an interview with Runner’s World UK.

He explained: “The red tops were writing about me weekly as a kind of ‘he’s done it’ story, but that doesn’t feel like me.

“That fat kid is the kid that I’ve looked at every day in the mirror and I still see him now.

“It’s a battle I’m probably going to carry with me for the rest of my life.

“You don’t shrug off that kind of thing so easily.”

Colson, who is known for playing PC Craig Tinker on the Cobbles, didn’t have the easiest time growing up.

He got candid about his role in the spotlight from an early age.

“Being the kid who was on telly definitely put a target on my head,” he added.

“I got a hard time at school. I got a hard time for my job, and a hard time for the way I looked, so it was the worst of both worlds.”

The actor has also been subjected to harsh criticism from social media trolls and confessed that he does see about “99.9%” of what is written about him.

“You do get people saying: ‘Oh my god, you were amazing in Corrie tonight,’ but I’m less likely to acknowledge that than the ones saying: ‘You are literally the worst actor I’ve ever seen’,” he admitted.

“The comments are mostly about my appearance.”

The actor also shared how he used to be very self-conscious when he first took up running, but has since learned to embrace it.

The star went on to explain that he used to run in the dark dressed in a snood and cap because he “did not want to be seen”.

This isn’t the first time Colson has opened up about this weight loss journey.

He often posts on his Instagram account about his love of running and going to the gym.

He first shared his transformation last year when he posted a snap of him in gym gear.

Alongside the image, he penned: “Bank Holiday run done.

“Feet up & some family time while staying at home now!

“Have a good un folks.”(sic)
