Dan Walker has shared the shocking moment he smashed headfirst into a glass panel while in training for Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Breakfast host, 44, was left needing a brain scan at A&E after running into a revolving door at his hotel back in September.

Dan revealed that the injury almost resulted in him having to pull out of Strictly before the series had even started, but thankfully he was cleared to return to training after a three day break.

Ouch! Dan Walker has shared the shock footage of the moment he crashed headfirst into a glass door back in September that saw him rushed to A&E for a brain scan

Painful: The BBC Breakfast host, 44, was left needing a brain scan at A&E after running into a revolving door at his hotel back in September

The footage showed Dan running at speed towards the revolving door after realising he had left his wallet in the taxi outside, only to rebound on the glass and fall straight to the floor.

He shared the footage on Instagram on Monday as he explained: ‘I’ve got some amazing memories from #Strictly but I’ll never forget that it nearly ended before it even began!

‘This was the incident which led a brain scan back in September! Staff at the hotel and A&E were great & I was ok to return to training after a 3 day break.

‘I’d left my wallet in the taxi but completely ignored the massive glass panel in the way while I was running outside before the car drove off.’

Wiped out: Dan revealed that the injury almost resulted in him having to pull out of Strictly before the series had even started, but thankfully he was cleared to return to training

Detailing his injuries, Dan continued: ‘There was an immediate cartoon bump and blood where my teeth burst my lips but thankfully it wasn’t as serious as it looked. I had the scan and was told to rest.’

Praising his dancer partner, he added: ‘@NadiyaBychkova was lovely & came with me to A&E but had to hide in the car park for hours because we hadn’t been announced on the launch show at this point.

‘Feels like a lifetime ago & can laugh about it now. Thank you NHS.’

While this is the first time Dan has shared footage of the incident, he spoke about his accident back in September.

Dan shared a masked-up selfie from A&E, as he told fans he’d been left feeling ‘a little wobbly’ in the wake of his injury,

‘Bit of head-based drama today! After whacking my noggin on the big glass window yesterday I got sent to A & E today because I was feeling a little wobbly,’ he penned.

‘A lovely nurse at Barnet Hospital called Karina checked my vitals and 6ft 9 Consultant Erik Witt gave me a CT scan to check for a bleed on the brain. Thankfully… all ok.

‘I’ve got to rest for a couple of days – so I’ll be a bit behind – but ready to dig in again next week.

‘A timely reminder of how amazing the NHS is and, even though I’m not allowed to tell you who my Strictly pro is… I can tell you that she waited for hours in the car park to make sure I was ok.

‘Whatever happens on the telly… she has a friend for life.’

Dan also took to his Instagram stories to share the mishap with his fans and said: ‘Things I learned yesterday… Don’t run into glass doors or get a big lump on your head.’

Under wraps: Praising his dancer partner, he added, ‘@NadiyaBychkova was lovely & came with me to A&E but had to hide in the car park for hours because we hadn’t been announced’

Saturday night’s Strictly finale saw EastEnders’ deaf actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her dance partner Giovanni Pernice lift the glitterball as she was crowned winner after competing against John Whaite in the most diverse final in the show’s 17-year history.

The nail-biting end to the 2021 series came down to the viewers’ vote after both Rose, 27, and John, 32, who formed the first ever male sex partnership with Johannes Radebe, tied on the leaderboard with the judges praising both for the ‘groundbreaking’ roles they have played in the competition.
