Police have declared a major incident today after a double decker bus overturned into a field.

The crash is believed to have happened just before 11am on the A385 between Totnes and Paignton in Devon.

It is as yet unclear how many people have been hurt.

Traffic website Inrix said: ‘A385 Totnes Road closed in both directions.

‘Slow traffic due to overturned double decker bus between Southfield (Paignton) and Saxon Meadow (Totnes).’

DCC Paul Netherton tweeted: ‘Major incident declared in South Devon following a major traffic incident – all emergency services working together to respond.’

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: ‘We have just been informed of a major incident following a collision involving a double-decker bus on the A385 between Totnes and Paignton, near to Lombcrombe Cross.

‘Details are still emerging, in the meantime can we please avoid the area. Closures are expected to remain in place for the considerable future.

‘Ambulance are on the scene and other emergency services en route.

‘Closures in place at Berry Pomeroy RAB. We will have more information as we have it.’
