FORMER Dr Who star Peter Miles – who famously played Davros's sinister henchman Nyder – has died aged 89.
A statement on his Twitter account read: "It is with great sadness that I have to inform you Peter passed away peaceful at home, last week at the age of 89. He didn't suffer & was full of his usual love of life last time we spoke.
"Thank you all for your interest in Peter, it meant a lot to him, he was always touched."
The highlight of his five-decade career was a star turn as Davros' henchman Nyder in Genesis of the Daleks.
He also had on-screen roles in Z-Cars, the 1976 version of Poldark, and Blake's 7.
A spokesman for the Dr Who website said: "It is with a heavy heart we announce that Peter Miles (Nyder in ‘Genesis Of The Daleks’) has passed away. A fantastic villain on the show and an incredibly kind and gentle man in real life."
Co-star Terry Molloy, who played Davros on-screen in Resurrection of the Daleks, wrote: "So sad to hear that Peter has gone. Such a lovely funny man. We giggled a lot when we worked on 'I Davros'. Sleep well Nyder!"
Pal Gary Russell added: "He was always a bloody good actor and a pleasure to direct and hang out with. He was also my friend. Goodnight Peter"
Miles also appeared in Dr Who radio spinoff The Paradise Of Death in 1993.
