Horrified football fan bites into a chicken’s HEAD after ordering a plate of wings while watching Liverpool’s crunch clash with Manchester United at a hotel
- Matty Roberts, 32, crunched through the top of a chicken’s skull on Sunday

- What he thought was just a ‘bony wing’ turned out to be a ghastly beaked head
A hungry football fan who had ordered a plate of half-time wings was left disgusted after biting a chunk out of a marinaded chicken head.
Matty Roberts, 32, was at Chester St David’s Hotel in Ewloe, North Wales, on Sunday to watch Liverpool’s crunch clash with Manchester United.
But never did he expect to find himself crunching through the top a chicken’s skull – narrowly missing the eyes and beak – when tucking into what he thought were wings.

Mr Roberts said: ‘I was in disbelief more than anything. The worst part was knowing that I’d gone to eat it and just put it back in the bowl because I thought it was just a bony wing.
‘It was only when one of my friends pointed out that it was an actual head.’
The stomach-churning dish horrified other customers and members of staff, but Mr Roberts believes that someone in the kitchen must have realised it was a bird’s head yet decided to marinade it and serve it anyway.
He said: ‘One of my friends kept playing with the beak to prove it was a head.
‘I felt horrible all day knowing what I’d just tried to eat.
‘I get that the food isn’t made from scratch there, but somewhere along the line, someone must’ve seen it wasn’t a wing and just coated it in sauce to serve.’
Mr Roberts waited for a staff member to come to his table before revealing the half-eaten head.
He said: ‘We waited until a waitress came over to clear the plates because we didn’t want to cause a scene as it was busy.
The stomach-churning meal happened in the Chester St David’s Hotel which said they were investigating what happened
Despite Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum’s attempted shot on goal, Sunday’s Manchester United clash ended in a goalless draw. But Mr Roberts will always remember the game after gnawing through a chicken head he thought was a ‘bony wing’
‘The waitress told us we’d have to go to the bar to complain which we did and because of the football, it was heaving at the bar, so customers started asking why we were bringing food back.
‘One guy when he found out shouted that it was disgusting and the team leader agreed.
‘They gave us a refund of the food bill, but I’m waiting on management to get in touch with me via email now.’
Village Hotels, which owns the branch, took to Twitter to apologise to Mr Roberts after he shared a photo of the chicken.
They said: ‘We are very sorry to see this. Please note we are investigating this with high importance.’
Iain, the front of house manager at Chester St David’s, also confirmed to MailOnline that they were looking into Mr Roberts’s shock meal.
