Carragher’s Range Rover had pulled up beside her United-supporting dad’s car in heavy traffic after Saturday’s Old Trafford match.
Video shows him spitting at the girl after her dad yelled: “Unlucky Jamie lad — 2-1!”
Carragher, 40, faces the sack from Sky Sports.
Carragher said sorry for spitting in the girl's face on Sunday.
The defender said: “I would like to apologise for my actions which were totally out of character.
“What I did was wrong and I have since personally apologised to the family involved.” The Sky football pundit spat from his Range Rover’s window after pulling up beside the United-supporting dad’s car in heavy traffic after Saturday’s Old Trafford match.
Video footage shows how the pair exchanged an initial wave, before the dad shouted: “Unlucky Jamie lad!” and “2-1!”
When the teasing continued Carragher spat — hitting the teenager who was in the passenger seat and leaving her in tears.
Carragher yesterday said he had been “goaded.”
He added: “I was continually goaded and verbally abused numerous times whilst being filmed in slow moving traffic and reacted in a way that is of course regretful.”
Police can bring assault charges over spitting — or prosecute as a public order offence.
Carragher, 40, has said previously in a football column that players spitting at each other is “vile”.
The dad yesterday denied abusing Carragher: “When we spotted him I was just shouting his name. I was not rude or offensive.
“He responded by spitting at my daughter.
“Carragher comes across on TV as a decent guy who likes a laugh.
“But who would behave in this way? It’s inhuman.
“Who would spit in the face of a 14-year-old girl?”
Sky Sports said: “It’s unacceptable behaviour and we will be addressing it with Jamie.”
