Fur Real: Teen finds her long-lost cat while volunteering at animal shelter

Happy Caturday! An Oregon teen got an early Christmas miracle last week when she was reunited with her long-lost cat while volunteering at a local animal shelter.

Hannah Rountree was volunteering at the Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center in Roseburg, Ore., when she spotted a furr-miliar face. One of the kitties in the shelter’s catio was Spunky — her cat who had run away three years ago while the family was away on vacation.

“I was like, is that my cat? It literally looks so much like Spunky,” the 15-year-old told the local NBC news affiliate.

It was indeed Spunky.

Saving Grace director Wendy Kang says Spunky was brought into the shelter in early September as a stray. The roaming kitty was renamed Bear and adopted out by another family – but returned soon after because the mouser wouldn’t mouse. The rodent averse cat was given back just in time for Rountree’s volunteering shift.

“It’s just perfect that she was able to find her pet while helping us,” said Kang.
