The husband of the Long Island nursing student who was found strangled in her home earlier this month has been arrested in connection with the slaying, police and reports said.
Michael Owen, 27, of St. James, was charged with murder in the second-degree Tuesday for the Jan. 15 death of 27-year-old South Farmingdale mom Kelly Owen, cops said.
Kelly, who lived with her parents, brother and 6-year-old daughter, was discovered dead in her bed by loved ones inside her home during the afternoon of Jan. 15.
Authorities said Kelly typically helped out at her daughter’s after-school program – and when her parents returned to the home that day and found Kelly’s car still in the driveway, they grew alarmed.
A medical examiner determined that Owen died of asphyxiation.
The victim’s family told investigators that on the morning of her death, Owen awoke at 8 a.m. and got her daughter ready for school before her father took the child to school.
Police have said that there were no apparent signs of forced entry at the home.
Michael is slated to be arraigned Wednesday.
