Johnny Depp's former bandmate says Amber Heard ruined his career

Johnny Depp’s former bandmate says Amber Heard ‘f***ed his career over’ and drove him to abuse alcohol and drugs

A former bandmate of Johnny Depp is laying the blame for the actor’s slowed career pace and alleged substance abuse issues on his ex-wife Amber Heard.

In a clip for the new Discovery+ documentary Johnny Vs Amber that was shared by LADbible, musician Bill ‘Beano’ Hanti claims that Heard ‘just saw [Depp] coming’ and insinuated herself into his life.

Hanti played with Depp, 58, in the 1980s in the band The Kids, before he switched his primary focus to acting after his breakout success in 1984’s A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Placing blame: Johnny Depp’s former bandmate Bill Hanti claims in the Discovery+ documentary series Johnny Vs Amber that Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard ruined his career and drove him to abuse drugs and alcohol; seen together in 2011

In the excerpt, Hanti seems to suggest that Heard used her starring role with Depp in 2011’s The Rum Diary to get close to him.

‘She got the opportunity to be a part of that film and she worked it,’ he says, even though he admits elsewhere that he has never met the actress.

He expressed concerns about the age gap between Depp and Heard, 35, and blamed her for having ‘ruined’ the Pirates Of The Caribbean star’s life.

‘I do understand that she’s half his age. I get it. OK, John, she’s 25. I get it. Don’t marry her. You don’t need to marry her. You’re Johnny Depp,’ says Hanti.

Planned out: Hanti expressed concerns about the age gap, as Heard was more than 20 years Depp’s junior, and he insinuated that she used her star role with Depp in 2011’s The Rum Diaries to get close to him; seen in October in Serbia

‘Ruined his life, it really did… It totally f***ed his career over, cost him his friends, part of his family,’ he continued.

‘She got inside John’s head and made him absolutely crazy to the point where he was drinking and drugging, to the point of insanity.’

DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Depp and Heard for comment.

Hanti also weighed in on Depp’s former partner Vanessa Paradis, whom he was with from 1998 until the 2012 split.

‘He had something special with Vanessa and he f***ed it up,’ he said, adding that she was a ‘beautiful soul’ and a ‘beautiful lady.’

The couple share two children, 22-year-old Lily-Rose Depp and 19-year-old Jack Depp.

The two-part series Johnny Vs Amber is split in half, with each actor having their perspective explored in one of the episodes.

‘The series provides an in-depth insight into the epic battle that powered #JusticeforJohnnyDepp and #IStandWithYouAmberHeard fan campaigns and the very public High Court case that gripped us all,’ explained Clare Laycock, senior VP for planning and insights and head of entertainment at Discovery, in a statement to Variety.

The series will include home videos shot by Heard and Depp that give an intimate picture of their tumultuous final days as a couple.

The Edward Scissorhands star began dating Heard following his 2012 split from Paradis, and the two were married in 2015 before confirming their separation in May 2016. Their divorce was finalized in 2017.

The union was marred by Heard’s accusations of domestic violence, and Depp later sued The Sun in 2018 after the paper described him as a ‘wife beater’ in response to Heard’s claims.

He called the Aquaman star’s claims false, but she reiterated them in court during the libel trial.

Legal loss: In October 2020, Depp lost a libel suit against The Sun when a judge declared the paper’s description of him as a ‘wife beater’ was ‘substantially true’; seen with Heard in 2016 in LA

‘He demeaned me anytime I tried to wear anything that could be seen as sexy, calling me a “whore,” “slut,” ‘fame-hungry” and “an attention whore,” it got worse over time,’ she claimed in court. ‘He started saying things like, “Well, I’m going to have to watch you get raped” and “I hope you get railed by a bunch of f***ing fellas. Sometimes he used racial epithets about the men I would be — or deserved to be — assaulted by,’ she said.

‘Some incidents were so severe that I was afraid he was going to kill me, either intentionally, or just by losing control and going too far.’

In October 2020, a judge ruled that the Suns description of Depp as a ‘wife beater’ was ‘substantially true,’ though the actor has requested an appeal on the ruling.

Depp has also claimed that Heard was an abuser in the relationship in a separate defamation lawsuit that he filed against her.

‘She hit, punched, and kicked me. She also repeatedly and frequently threw objects into my body and head, including heavy bottles, soda cans, burning candles, television remote controls, and paint thinner cans, which severely injured me,’ he said.
