Labour’s Thornberry in hospital after bike crash outside Parliament

Labour frontbencher Emily Thornberry was in hospital tonight after being knocked off her bike just feet from the Commons.  

The shadow foreign secretary collided with a vehicle around lunchtime in Parliament Square in central London.

The area outside the Palace of Westminster is a busy throughfare often clogged with cars, lorries, buses and cyclists.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene and the Islington South and Finsbury MP was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the MP told the Huffington Post: ‘Emily is recovering in hospital, and is hugely grateful for the support of the ambulance crew and A&E staff who have helped her since this accident.

‘We hope she will be back on her feet, back to work, and back on her bike as soon as possible.’

Labour MPs voiced their support for the frontbencher, including Alison McGovern.
