A man has been arrested over the death of an elderly care home resident and police are investigating the medication that was given to him before he died.
The care home resident, aged in his 70s, died on September 8 after being admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Gloucestershire Police said the man was a resident at Wheatridge Court in Abbeydale, Gloucester.
A force spokesman said: ‘An arrest was made on Friday September 10 in relation to medication given prior to the man’s death.
The care home resident, aged in his 70s, died on September 8 after being admitted to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Gloucestershire Police said the man was a resident at Wheatridge Court in Abbeydale, Gloucester
‘The arrested person has since been released on conditional bail until October 7. The ongoing investigation is led by the Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit.’
The force did not release further details of the arrested person.
A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire County Council said: ‘We are actively supporting the police with their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a resident, which we are taking extremely seriously.
‘Our thoughts are with the resident’s family at this most difficult of times – we are offering them our full support.
‘We are also supporting the other residents of Wheatridge Court and our staff. As the police investigation is ongoing, it’s not appropriate to comment further at this time.’
