A man has been killed after a reported hit and run outside GCHQ in Cheltenham in the early hours of today.
The man’s body was found on the A40, a main road into the town, just before 2am say Gloucestershire Police and the road has been closed since police were called.
The force said in a statement this morning: "Officers were called shortly after 2am today after the body of a man was seen on the ground on the A40 in the Benhall area.
"The road is closed around the scene while enquiries remain going.
"Anyone who was travelling along the A40 around that time and may have seen something relevant or anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 40 of 16 August."
Police have urged motorists to find alternative routes and to avoid the area.
A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service told Gloucestershire Live: "We were called at 01:56am and attended with an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle."
They declined to add further information.
The man’s identity is not known and it is not known if he worked at GCHQ.
There are local diversions in place.
