For most of us, if we’re told something often enough, we’re likely to remember it.
We’ll be able to recall details of a story we’ve heard numerous times at the drop of a hat – almost as if it had happened to us in the first place.
This may be one explanation for what happened to Prince William during his engagement interview with Kate Middleton back in 2010, when he shared a memory from a family event that he famously never attended.
Royal fans have recently spotted his gaffe from the interview, and are now calling him out on it.
During their engagement announcement, Kate was asked about the first time she ever met William’s grandmother , the Queen.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 36, revealed how she was first introduced to the Queen at the wedding of Autumn Kelly and Peter Phillips in 2008, which took place in Windsor.
Kate noticeably attended the nuptials alone, as William was in Kenya at the time, attending the wedding of his ex-girlfriend Jecca Craig’s brother, with whom he had remained close with following the break-up.
Speaking of her meeting with Queen Elizabeth II, Marie Claire reports that Kate said: "I first met her at Peter and Autumn’s wedding and again it was amongst a lot of other guests and she was very friendly and no it was fine."
William, 36, then chimed in to the conversation, seemingly sharing his own account of the situation and how the Queen behaved towards his partner.
"She was very welcoming, she knew it was a big day and everything was going on with Peter and Autumn, she wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello and have a little chat," he added.

It may be that Kate was feeling a little nervous during the interview, and William felt the need to step in and add to her answer, or he may genuinely have thought he had been to the wedding. No one knows what went through his mind at the time.
During the interview, Kate and William also spoke about the time they split up at university and Kate’s awkward reaction to meeting Wills for the first time – she says she went bright red and "scuffled" away.
