A rat clings on to a table leg for dear life as flood waters rush beneath it during this week’s typhoon.

The animal was filmed with all four legs reaching around a table leg as it gripped on to escape from flooding in China.

As it holds its head above the brown flood water girls in the room can be heard laughing.

The video shows another girl in a purple dress holding on to her legs as she sits on the table to keep out of the flood waters.

The noise from the girls intensifies as the rat seems to be trying to climb further up the table’s leg, towards the girl in purple.

Typhoon Lekima hit three Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Shandong and Anhui over the weekend.

It is thought to have killed at least 49 people and emergency teams have been filmed using ropes and pulleys to rescue people from their homes.

Lekima hit the Zhejiang province on Saturday with winds of nearly 190km/h. On the coast waves reached several metres in height.

Around five million people in the Zhejiang province have been affected and 250,000 residents have been evacuated in Shanghai, officials say.
