Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, blasted Democrats for holding an impeachment inquiry into President Trump without having fact witnesses testify, saying it’s a “simple railroad job.”
“There’s no fact witnesses planned for this committee. That’s an interesting thing. There’s no plan at all except next week an ambiguous hearing. A presentation from the other committee that sent us the report,” Collins of Georgia said during his opening statement on Wednesday.
“This is not an impeachment. This is just a simple railroad job. And today’s is a waste of time,” he continued.
Collins said the Democrats effort to remove from office didn’t start with then-special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russia interference in the 2016 election it started with election day when Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.
“Do you know where this started? It started with tears in Brooklyn in November 2016 when an election was lost. So we’re here. No plan. No fact witnesses,” he said.
Collins also said the 2020 election is hanging over the panel, forcing the Democrats hand on impeachment.
“Why? Because the chairman said it just a second ago. We’re scared of the elections that we’ll lose again,” Collins said, referring to Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the chairman of the panel. “So we got to do this now.”
