Good Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley reveals his iPhone was stolen in his local pub as he calls for thief to be hanged
Richard Madeley today revealed his iPhone was stolen at his local pub – as he called for the thief to be hanged.
The Good Morning Britain host said the theft, carried out by someone trying to sell him a magazine, left him feeling like his right arm had been ‘chopped off’.
Madeley, 67, explained how the thief cleverly placed the product on top of his mobile before sweeping it away undetected.
The furious TV presenter claimed in The Spectator that he wanted to see the perpetrator ‘hanged’.
‘I’ve always been against capital punishment but after the week I’ve had I’m making an exception,’ he wrote.
Richard Madeley said his iPhone was stolen at his local pub in a ‘bog-standard’ technique
Detailing the incident, Madeley added: ‘I was in my local when a weird-looking guy shambling around the bar slammed a dog-eared magazine down on my table and demanded I buy it.
‘When I refused he swept it back again and wandered off. Five minutes later I realised he’d smuggled my phone away underneath the magazine.’
The star bemoaned the loss of his phone, which he said resulted in him being without his photos, email, the ability to pay for parking and personal banking.
Describing the technique as ‘bog-standard’, he issued a warning to readers before reiterating his desire to see the thief hanged, adding that he would like to be the one to ‘pull the trapdoor leaver’.
