Schoolboy, five, ‘lucky to be alive’ after being mauled by dog while playing in a friend’s garden – as bite missed his lung and organs by just inches
- The dog escaped from a nearby garden in St Helens just before the brutal attack
A five-year-old schoolboy was ‘lucky to be alive’ after he was savagely mauled by a dog while playing in his friend’s garden, with the bite narrowly missing his lung and other organs.
Jaxon was playing at the back of a friend’s house in St Helens when his mother Laura Piert said she ‘heard a scream’ and rushed out to check on her son to find him with bites on his arm and below his rib.
Another boy that Jaxon was playing with was also attacked by the dog that had managed to escape from another garden in the neighbourhood on September 21 at around 7.50pm.
The five-year-old was rushed to hospital to be treated for his near-fatal bites and still had stitches after more than two weeks after the attack.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Laura said: ‘Doctors said it was lucky [the bite] missed his lung and organs.
‘They said his bite was a level five, level six is death. He’s lucky to be alive.’
Ms Piert said Jaxon has also been struggling to sleep and does not want to play out. She added Jaxon is now ‘petrified of other dogs’ since the attack.
She added: ‘He will have bad scars and still has stitches. I’d rather it had been me.’
Merseyside Police previously confirmed they received a report two five-year-old boys were attacked by a dog after it ran out of a garden on Hempstead Close, St Helens on Thursday, September 21 at around 7.50pm.
Ms Piert said she was ‘fuming’ about what happened as claims the same dog had attacked before.
She said: ‘The police were not doing their job. It’s not the first time, why was it allowed on the estate?’
She added: ‘It could have been preventable. What would have happened if they both died?’

Tom Colborn’s son Kayden, also five-years-old, was attacked by a dog in May on the same road, reportedly by the same dog involved in the September incident.
Kayden suffered a ‘significant injury to his arm’ and was admitted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for around four days and had to have an operation on his arm.
Speaking about the incident, Mr Colborn told the Liverpool Echo: ‘It had ripped all the tissue out of his arm.
‘I was working on the private ambulances at the time and had seen dead bodies, I was used to it, but when saw Kayden’s arm I went white, I think because it was my own son.’
Doctors told the boy’s parent that had the dog had pulled its head back, Kayden’s ‘arm would have been ripped off’. The five-year-old has also been struggling to sleep after the attack.

Tom added: ‘In the night he comes in to get in the bed with us […] and when a dog is barking now he is always clinging on to me. My mum has a dog and he would not go into my mum’s for two months.’
The dad added Kayden has also been receiving counselling at school following the dog attack.
He also said someone else was allegedly attacked by the same dog in July. However, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police there was no evidence or information that incident took place.
A spokesperson for the force confirmed they received a report at around 5.30pm on Friday, May 19, that a dog had attacked a five-year-old boy at a house on Hempstead Close.
They said the owner of the dog was issued with a community resolution order which included keeping her dog on a muzzle when out in public.
