‘I think she’s incredible’: Strictly’s Dan Walker admits he’s been secretly voting for rival contestant Rose Ayling-Ellis to WIN the show

Dan Walker has admitted he has been voting for rival contestant Rose Ayling-Ellis to win the current series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Breakfast presenter, 44, believes the EastEnders star, 27, is a more worthy champion due to having to navigate through the competition as a deaf person.

Claiming he ‘knows how hard it is’ since his dad Austin suffers from the impediment, Dan admitted he doesn’t think he will receive the highly-coveted Glitterball Trophy.

He told The Mirror: ‘For her to do what she’s doing with Giovanni [Pernice], it’s staggeringly impressive. And she’s such a lovely girl as well.

Rose and Giovanni blew audiences away while performing a stunning segment, which wasn’t performed to any music, earlier in the month.

The double-act performed a Couple’s Choice to Symphony by Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson, before an emotional Anton Du Beke, 55, branded the moment ‘the greatest thing he’s ever seen on the show.’

Dan gushed: ‘I was sat next to Nadiya [Bychkova] who was in tears. It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen on the television. I’ve watched it about five times the next day with our kids. I think she’s incredible.

‘And… I know I probably shouldn’t be but I am voting for her every week.’

Rose recently shared an insight into how she learns her intricate routines after being lauded as the show’s first ever the deaf contestant.

The actress revealed that she actually finds following the vibrations brought on by the music to be distraction, and so instead she just focuses on her dance partner Giovanni Pernice.

She told Radio Times: ‘Some deaf people do, some don’t. But I’ve got too many things going on in my head.

‘If I start thinking about the vibrations, I’m going to forget about my dance. What works best for me is to keep it simple. So I watch Giovanni and I count – a lot.’
