Teenager fighting for his life after crash on way to see Fury fight

This is the first picture of a teenager fighting for his life in hospital today after a horrifying late-night crash that killed four of his family from Britain’s travelling community.

Schoolboy Jerry Cash was the only survivor of the horror crash in Kent in the early hours of Sunday morning while he and his relatives were driving to see Tyson Fury’s late-night fight against Deontay Wilder on TV.

The 15-year-old is fighting for his life in hospital in London after being airlifted from Kent.  

The incident, which happened on Lenham Road, Headcorn, Kent, left four people dead, a 44-year-old, a 25-year-old and two others aged 18 and 19 years. All were men and understood to have been from the same family.

Images of the crushed Toyota Hilux pick-up truck also showed how it had been severely mangled when it was believed to have smashed into trees after veering off the narrow country road in thick fog

The other victim named locally was 25-year-old Johnny Cash Jnr.

He posted a picture of them together on Instagram with the message: ‘One of my best friends, my brother, love you cuz’. 

Following the crash, images of the crushed Toyota Hilux pick-up truck showed how it had been severely mangled when it was believed to have smashed into trees after veering off the narrow country road in thick fog. 

Today family members posted touching tributes to the four men, who were believed to be part of a traveller community who lived nearby.

One relative asked online for help to support the teenage survivor, saying: ‘Please ask everyone you know to pray for this young boy. 

‘He is the only one out of five who survived the car accident. This little boy needs healing from God right now.’

Family members laid flowers and paid tribute to the four men, who were believed to be part of a traveller community

While another relative who posted a picture of the men, said simply: ‘I just can’t get my head around it.’ 

Post-mortem examinations were expected to be carried out today by a pathologist to determine exactly what caused the death of the four men.

A spokesman for Kent Police, which is investigating the crash, said: ‘A 15-year-old boy, who was also a passenger, was taken to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries.

‘Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact. 

‘Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has CCTV, mobile phone or dash camera footage should call us on 01622 798538.’
