There’s an alligator on the loose in New Jersey

An alligator is on the loose in south Jersey — and authorities are warning residents to keep their small pets inside.

The 3- to 4-foot gator was spotted in the Devonshire section of Mullica Township Tuesday afternoon, prompting a search by cops and animal protection workers.

The reptile was seen on Hamburg Avenue between Route 30 and Duerer Street, Mullica police said on Facebook.

“We are working with our partners in the animal protection and care fields to locate the animal,” the post said. “Residents should be cautious letting small pets out in this area and to not approach the animal if it is located.”

Police asked residents to call their dispatch line at 609-652-2037 if they spot the animal.

It’s unclear where the gator escaped from.
