Thug who killed husband, 61, in horror 113mph car smash while on ‘hippy crack’ then left him to die is jailed: Tearaway caught trafficking cocaine and heroin as a teenager is locked up for over nine years after ploughing Mercedes into driver
- Shaun Tinsley, 28, killed 61-year-old Paul Loller in a crash on the M62 on April 29
- Tinsley’s criminal past started as a teenager and he has 21 previous convictions
A thug who killed a 61-year-old husband in a 113mph horror car smash while on hippy crack’, and then left him to die, has been jailed.
Tearaway Shaun Tinsley, now-28, of West Derby, Liverpool, was also caught trafficking cocaine and heroin as a teenager.
Tinsley crashed into Wirral man Paul Loller’s vehicle ‘like a missile’ on the M62 at around 3.40am on April 29. He then careered into the central reservation and ‘in a cowardly way’ fled on foot, leaving Mr Loller dying at the scene.
CCTV footage taken at a garage on the night of the crash showed Tinsley’s car parked up, while nitrous oxide canisters were passed between people in the vehicle. Tinsley was seen inhaling from a ‘black, round object’.
Tinsley’s criminal record stretches back to his youth. His 21 previous convictions for 36 offences include ‘serious criminal activity’ with his name first making headlines back in 2014 – when he was locked up as part of a Merseyside-based drugs gang which trafficked heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis to Cumbria.

Tinsley admitted causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident, causing death by driving while disqualified, causing death by driving while uninsured and driving without insurance.
He was jailed for nine years and four months and held a hand up to the public gallery as he was led down to the cells.
Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday that Tinsley was driving a grey Mercedes CLA 180 at ‘excessive speeds’ in Warrington when he crashed into Mr Loller’s silver Skoda Fabia.
Ian Whitehurst, prosecuting, described how Mr Loller suffered ‘extensive, severe injuries to his chest’ and later died in Warrington Hospital.
One witness, Matthew Blakey, had been travelling with a work colleague and was on the slip road joining the M62 from the M6 when he saw Tinsley travelling at speed in the left-hand lane. He swerved left then right before the collision and ‘violently span off’ before continuing into the central reservation.
Another witness, James Holmes, saw ‘females stood by the Mercedes who appeared to be panicking’.
Two men, including Tinsley, were seen to run away while Mr Holmes prevented a third from scarpering.
A fourth injured male remained in the rear of the car. The two occupants who remained, Kieran and Richard Griffiths, were arrested.
The former told the police that he knew the driver as ‘Adam’, and had seen the car’s speedometer reach up to 134mph before the crash.
Expert crash investigators found that the car had been travelling at 113mph at the time of the crash.
Tinsley, who sat with his head bowed throughout the hearing, had no licence or insurance at the time of the fatal accident.

Liverpool Crown Court (pictured) heard on Wednesday that Tinsley was driving a grey Mercedes CLA 180 at ‘excessive speeds’ in Warrington when he crashed into Mr Loller’s silver Skoda Fabia
He was found in bed with a woman at the Beaufort Park Hotel near Mold, North Wales, on May 5 and was arrested.
His DNA was discovered on one of several deflated balloons recovered from inside the Mercedes, alongside nitrous oxide canisters.
Sentencing, the Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC, said: ‘The Mercedes did not belong to you, and you should not have been driving it at all because you did not have a driving licence.
‘You have never passed a driving test and have a previous disqualification from driving for an earlier offence of dangerous driving.
‘Mr Loller stood no chance at all. It must have seemed to him as though his vehicle had been hit by a missile.
‘You, in a cowardly way, left and ran off. You laid low and were arrested about a week later.’
Paul Lewis, defending, said: ‘Nothing I say on behalf of Mr Tinsley is intended to diminish the palpable loss of the Loller family. What he would like, through me, to say to them is that he does not expect to receive and nor does he ask for forgiveness.
‘He does not and cannot forgive himself. He knows he has wrecked their family.’
Mr Lewis added: ‘The decision making was clouded by the use of nitrous oxide. This was an unintended consequence of a night behind the wheel that he never imagined.’
Judge Menary said of Mr Loller’s bereaved partner of 43 years: ‘One can only begin to imagine the terrible grief she has suffered as a consequence of this senseless activity. She speaks of her immense sense of loss and the incalculable impact on everyone who knew and loved this kind and considerate man.

‘I accept you deeply regret what you did that night. The difficultly is that your actions at the time undermine those expressions of regret, particularly your leaving the scene and saying nothing about what had happened.’
Regarding Tinsley’s imprisonment in 2014, a total of 23 conspirators were brought down as part of the Cumbria Police investigation, code-named Operation Axe.
The conspirators were jailed for a combined total of 44 years and one month. Tinsley, then aged 20, received two years and eight months.
Then in August 2015, Matrix officers raided Tinsley’s home as part of a crackdown on gun crime.
Merseyside Police recovered a silver revolver loaded with one run and a 9mm Luger pistol with a number of rounds inside, as well as an additional three live rounds and one spent round. Tinsley was jailed for six years in September of the same year after admitting possession of firearms and ammunition.
He was also convicted of dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance in November 2010. And the very same month, the teen was further convicted of driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
