Ukrainian girl, 8, killed by Russian shelling despite grandad desperately trying to shield her from blast with his body

AN EIGHT-year-old Ukrainian girl was killed by Russian shelling as her grandad desperately tried to shield her from the blast.

Tragic Alisa died as Putin's thugs opened fire and dropped devastating bombs in the city of Ochtyrka in Sumy Oblast, the wife of the Ukrainian President announced.

Her heroic grandfather had tried to hide her from the advancing troops in a basement when he was heartlessly shot as he cradled her.

He valiantly attempted to save the little girl by acting as a human shield to try and protect her with his body.

But he was horrifically slaughtered in front of his doting granddaughter as the barrage of gunfire continued.

According to reports, Alisa was gravely injured in the attack and rushed to hospital by her devastated mother Victoria.

The youngster then sadly passed away two days later due to her catastrophic injuries.

The chilling story is yet another stern reminder of the cost of the conflict raining down on the innocent children of Ukraine.

"She died during the shooting along with her grandfather, who was trying to protect her with his own body."

Ms Zelenskyy claimed that at least 38 children have already been killed as a result of the Russian invasion, while sharing the harrowing stories of other youngsters who had been caught in the crossfire.

The emotional message continued: "That number may continue to increase right now due to the fire of peaceful cities!

"When the people in Russia say they are not at war with the civil population, show them these pictures!

"These are the faces of children who never grow up."

The mother-of-two begged the "unbiased media in the world" to "tell this terrible truth" while sharing pictures of the murdered children.

One of the heartbreaking images was of the smiling 10-year-old schoolgirl Polina, who was shot dead alongside her parents when their car was attacked by Russian saboteurs in Kyiv.

Another showed six-year-old Sofia Fedko, who was mercilessly massacred alongside her family after soldiers targeted their car.

Her six-week-old baby brother Ivan, mother Irina, 27, and two grandparents, both aged 56, were also killed by Putin's troops as the children's terrified uncle listened powerlessly on the phone.

Ms Zelenskyy slammed the brutal Russian regime, claiming Putin's henchmen were killing civilians so cruelly "on purpose".

She said: "They shoot at their victims and don't allow humanitarian aid.

These are the faces of children who never grow up.

"Show this to Russian mothers as well. They should know what their sons are doing in Ukraine. Show these photos of Russian women.

"It's their husbands, brothers, countrymen, who kill children and maybe even have their own!"

The First Lady then called on Nato to implement a no-fly zone over Ukraine to "save our children, so that yours will not die tomorrow!"

Her honourable husband President Zelenskyy earlier vowed Vladimir Putin would pay the price for every fallen Ukrainian.

The former comedian turned politician pledged to strike back against Russia, saying: "We will rebuild every single house, every single street, every single city.

"And we are telling Russia – learn the words 'reparations' and 'contributions'.

"You will pay back fully to us for what you've done against our state, against our every single Ukrainian."
