Walsall motorbike crash kills two teenagers as 'drink driver' is arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

The victims – aged 18 and 19 – were riding home from work when they died in a smash with a vehicle at 11.30pm last night.

Emergency services battled to save the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Rover driver, 58, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

PC Karl Davies, of West Midlands Police,  said: “This is a heartbreaking incident in which two young men have lost their lives.

“It appears they were heading home together from work when the collision happened.”

The crash happened as the motorbike travelled along Broadway West between the junctions of Lord Street and Alexandra Road.

PC Davies added: "“Broadway is one of the main routes into Walsall and I’m sure that other road users will have witnessed the collision or the bike riding along the road.

"I’d urge anyone with information to contact the Unit as soon as possible.”
