A WOMAN was kidnapped and raped in a daylight attack in a busy town centre.

Police have charged a homeless man, Leon Svans, 27, after the horror incident in the Greyfriars area of Northampton.

The woman was attacked, kidnapped and raped on the morning of Friday, May 12.

Following the incident, the woman sought refuge at the Bonmarche shop in Abington Street where staff provided her with support before police arrived.

Svans appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 16, charged with kidnap and rape.

He was remanded into custody ahead of a plea hearing at Northampton Crown Court on June 27, 2023.
