Billy Ray Cyrus, 61, has finally confirmed that he is engaged to Australian singer Firerose, 34, as he revealed that he popped the question just four months after his wife of 28 years Tish had filed for divorce.

The Achy Breaky Heart hitmaker made the revelation in an interview with People magazine published on Tuesday in which he gave some insight on his relationship with the musician nearly half his age, got candid about his mother passing away, and insisted that there is no riff with his children after his split.

It has been quite the year for Billy as mother-of-four Tish, 55, filed for divorce in April, four months later he became engaged with Firerose, and just a few weeks after his mother Ruth Ann Castro died.

Interesting timing: He revealed that he popped the question just four months after his wife of 28 years Tish Cyrus had filed for divorce, the former couple are seen together in February 2019

Firerose recalled the moment he proposed as he revealed there was no bended knee or ring as she said: ‘Billy looked at me and said, “Do you, do you wanna marry me?” And I was just like, “Of course I do. I love you.” He said, “I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.”‘

She also revealed that she later picked out a diamond and designed her own ring which has been seen on social media since.

Since Billy’s split with Tish and rumors of his engagement there have been reports that there is a rift with his children; son Christopher Cody (who he shares with ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey), 30, Brandi, 35, and Noah, 22, and sons Trace, 33, and Braison, 28.

However the star insisted that there are no hard feelings in the family as he explained: ‘Everyone knew that that relationship was over a long time ago.

Speaking of change, Billy Ray got emotional as he reflected on the month of August where he got engaged and lost his mother as he said: ‘I’ve spent my life worried about things that are beyond my control. But at this spot in my life, knowing that all you really have is the happiness that you feel inside your mind and your heart…’

‘Everybody’s turning the page. It’s been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change.’
