Brian May 'HATES' The Voice as he says 'the show doesn't work'

‘The programme doesn’t work’: Brian May admits he ‘HATES’ The Voice as he claims musicians need to the ‘full package’ to succeed in the industry

Brian May has admitted he ‘hates’ The Voice as he claims the programme ‘doesn’t work’.

The ITV programme, which is currently airing its tenth series, follows the franchise’s blind auditions format, in which the judges initially evaluate the contestants’ future on the show based on their vocal talent.

But the Queen’s lead guitarist, 73, has insisted aspiring artists need the ‘full package’ in order to succeed in the industry.

According to The Mirror, the iconic rocker said during his virtual perfume launch last week: ‘We make music and it is all about music but the packaging is vital as it is the first thing people see.

‘With a performer you could say it is all about the voice but it is not just about the voice. It is about the whole body, the face and the soul.

‘Which is why I really hate this programme called The Voice because it does not work. You cant just isolate a voice and think that is what it is all about.’

The current series is fronted by returning judges will.i.am, Olly Murs and Sir Tom Jones, as well as Anne-Marie, who has replaced Meghan Trainor.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Brian and The Voice for further comment.

In the work department, Brian recently launched a perfume to aid the protection of badgers and other wildlife.

The record producer has collaborated with perfume creator Sergio Momo in order to deliver the new venture, which will be named Save Me after his band’s single.

It has been a rough 12 months for the media personality who suffered a heart attack in 2020.

Before Christmas, the songwriter praised his wife Anita Dobson on their 20th wedding anniversary for saving his life.

The guitar player expressed his gratitude towards the former EastEnders actress, 71, and said he was ‘grateful to be alive’ after having a ‘cluster of things go wrong.’

In May, Brian revealed he was recovering from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve as a result of a gardening injury, when he suffered a heart attack amid his recovery.
