Regé-Jean Page has said he didn’t feel embarrassed shooting Bridgerton’s steamy sex scenes, due to the fact they were choreographed.

The actor made the comments as he appeared alongside Dave Grohl, Felicity Kendal, Alan Carr, Siobhán McSweeney and Jessie Ware on The Graham Norton Show – which will air on Friday.

Recalling his steamy scenes with co-star Phoebe Dynevor (Daphne Bridgerton) the 31-year-old star explained that all precautions were taken to eliminate any ‘risks’.

Asked about the sex scenes, he quipped: ‘There was a fair bit!

‘We had an intimacy coordinator, so everything is choreographed. It takes the risk and the embarrassment out of the scene.’

Asked if his family watched those particular scenes he revealed: ‘There were some cousins missing from the family WhatsApp group and they said, “We made our tactical cups of tea when you started and when we came back you were still going!”‘

Regé revealed he was blown away by the success of the show, but confessed it had left him feeling ‘scared’.

Having read about the show’s popularity in lockdown he mused: ‘It’s just me and the four walls and I don’t go to the front door because I am scared.

‘You don’t know who’s going to be there. It’s the only thing that is real about the whole thing!’

Such is the success of the show, that bookmakers started tipping Rege to be named the next James Bond – as Daniel Craig’s replacement is yet to be announced.

Keeping his mouth firmly shut on the rumours, he quipped: ‘Bridgerton is the only ‘B’ word I am allowed to say – I am not going to talk about the other ‘B’ words!’

Bridgerton – released on Netflix last month – follows the self-titled family and how their lives are turned upside-down by the revelations of the illusive and anonymous Lady Whistledown in London.

The first series had a strong focus on the love story of Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, and Daphne Bridgerton.

The two characters start out as friends as a ploy to fool London’s elite and Lady Whistledown herself, before inadvertently falling in love with each other.

Phoebe – who plays Daphne in the series – previously spoke about how she coped with the show’s various sex scenes, telling Glamour magazine:  ‘We did the intimate scenes like stunts.

‘We blocked them out, so you have yoga balls in between you and all sorts of things that never make you feel exposed in any way. You always feel safe.

‘I’d rehearse with Regé so much that we both knew what we were doing. It felt very practical.’

The former Waterloo Road actress explained that she always felt safe and comfortable on set thanks to her female intimacy coordinater.

‘I always get back to the fact that [our intimacy coach] Lizzy [Talbot] was on set for that scene. If we didn’t have an intimacy coordinator, it would be our director, who was a male, coming up to me and telling me what to do. That would have been awkward.

She added: ‘I felt so safe in the knowledge that Lizzy was there, so that if something went wrong or the director wanted something different, he could speak to her first.

‘I think it would have been a very difficult experience if Lizzy hadn’t been on set protecting me and looking after me. No one wants to be told how to perform an orgasm [on set] by a man.’

It was revealed last month that Bridgerton has been officially renewed by Netflix for series two after weeks of speculation.

The second season will focus on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) quest to find a wife after his turbulent love life was played out in the first series.
