Candace Cameron claps back at 'haters' after posting family photo

Candace Cameron claps back at ‘haters’ who criticized her family photo in celebration of the new year: ‘Do better than that. Please’

Candace Cameron Bure took to social media on Saturday and shared a family photo to celebrate the new year and offer some encouraging words of hope for 2021.

And now the Full House star finds herself taking her ‘haters’ to task after some people shared some harsh and ‘unkind comments’ about the picture of the family of five.

‘Wow- I post a family photo and you all find everything you don’t like about it or can make fun of. Do better than that. Please,’ the actress, 44, wrote in response on Instagram less than 24 hours later.

Disappointed: Candace Cameron Bure took her ‘haters’ to task when she responded to criticism over a family photo she posted on social media in celebration of the new year

The photo in question, which was taken by Fuller House co-star Dave Coulier’s wife, Melissa Coulier, showed Bure posing alongside husband Valeri and their three children: daughter Natasha, 22, and sons Lev, 20, and Maksim, 18, on the porch of a home.

‘Happy New Year from the Bures!! Looking forward to what 2021 has in store. I’m praying for unity, grace, humility, compassion and love for mankind. With God, all things are possible. Sending virtual hugs and kisses! XO,’ Bure captioned the photo.

While many of the commenters gushed over the family portrait, and the smiles on the faces of Candace and Valeri, there were others who criticized their children for the looks on their faces.

‘This is a very weird photo,’ one person wrote, who went on to say one of Bure’s sons ‘looks stoned,’ and that Natasha ‘looks like a Disney movie evil queen.’

Happy New Year: Bure, 44, took to social media on Saturday and shared a family photo to celebrate the new year and offer some encouraging words of hope for 2021

Social media trolls: After receiving some critical comments over the family photo, the actress hit back on Instagram less tan 24-hours later

Natasha, who can be seen not smiling and looking off to her right in the image, also wasted little time in hitting back on Instagram, writing, ‘Oh, my god, I didn’t smile or look at the camera. Sue me!!!’

Candace also shared her disappointment over the negative reactions to the photo on Facebook.

‘I posted my family Christmas photo and sadly, there were so many unkind comments. Do you think it’s funny to criticize someone’s children? To make jokes about them? To critique our poses? The direction in which we are looking? Our physical appearance and facial expressions?’ she wrote.

Responding to the criticism: The Full House star’s daughter, Natasha, 22, also hit back on Instagram, writing, ‘Oh, my god, I didn’t smile or look at the camera. Sue me!!!’; mother and daughter are pictured on December 13

Doubling down: The actress also shared her disappointment over the negative reactions to the photo on Facebook

‘I wished blessings upon everyone as I shared it in the spirit of a happy new year, yet so many of you came back with jokes about our appearance and criticism of what you thought would have been a better photo. Shame on you,’ she continued before adding that ‘it doesn’t matter if you’re 10 or 90 years old, rude is rude.’

Candace went on to encourage people to ‘be better than that’ and that she is ‘praying for humanity.’

‘Manners and respect. If you don’t like something, just move on. There are people and real feelings behind every screen. P.S. Please don’t tell me to ignore the “haters.”‘

She ended by adding a healthy dose of sarcasm: ‘There were plenty of well meaning people who thought it would be funny to point out things and share their commentary, “with love.” Umm… that’s not love. That’s rude. Try kind. It looks good on everyone.’

Bure has made ‘kindness’ a consistent theme on her social media platforms: she is pictured wearing a ‘kindness is golden’ t-shirt in a post in November
