Comic Relief fans praised The Traitors sketch on Friday evening.

The BBC One parody began with Dawn French taking on Claudia Winkelman’s role as host, channeling the presenter’s trademark blunt fringe and eyeliner.

Comedian Dawn, 65, parted her fringe with a curtain rope, while her giant turtle neck jumper got increasingly larger as she mimicked Claudia, 51, in the hilarious spoof.

Throughout the skit, the Vicar of Dibley star Dawn showed off a variety of gloves, beginning with fingerless red leather pair, before switching to a striped knit pair.

Next she wore red boxing gloves before changing into yellow marigold rubber gloves, then pink oven mitts as well as giant sports fan gloves.

At the end of the skit, The Traitor’s real host Claudia took over and revealed that she was wearing Goalkeeper gloves.

Viewers were enthralled with the celebrity Red Nose Day sketch, and quickly took to Twitter to heap praise on all of those involved, but especially Dawn.

One viewer wrote: ‘Dawn French in Claudia Winkleman’s giant turtleneck getting larger with every shot is cinematic PERFECTION #ComicRelief #RedNoseDay #TheTraitors.’

‘The Traitors comic relief special. Dawn French as Claudia is already making me howl with the neck on her jumper getting bigger #thetraitors #comicrelief,’ admitted another.

Someone else tweeted: ‘Loving #DawnFrench and her polo neck etc. #TheTraitors #ComicRelief,’ while another fan confessed: ‘No I’m howling at Dawn French pulling her fringe apart #TheTraitors #ComicRelief.’

‘The changing gloves and the fringe pulling apart like a curtain finished me off,’ concluded one highly entertained viewer.

The Traitors Red Nose Day sketch brought together a host of familiar faces as former contestants mingled with celebrities in a hilarious skit.

As Dawn began to interrogate the ‘contestants’ it emerged that Stephen Merchant, Danny Dyer, Big Zuu, Mary Berry, Ewan McGregor and Alison Hammond were the celebrity guests.

Fans were waiting to watch the skit since Comic Relief co-founder Richard Curtis announced the news during Claudia Winkleman’s Radio 2 show.

The camera cut to Danny saying that he ‘recognised’ a fellow traitor ‘from Walford’, with season one fan favourite Maddy Smedley making a surprise cameo as she ripped off her hood and explained her history on the show.

On Maddy’s season she came under suspicion when she confessed that she was an actress who had appeared in one episode of EastEnders – where she played a homeless woman named Rita – and in one episode of Casualty where she played a woman without a womb.

The next contestant to reveal themselves on the parody was Wilfred Webster, who nearly won the jackpot on season one before being exposed at the very last minute.

Claudia told the BBC: ‘I can’t wait for people to see this sketch. I’m so grateful to Comic Relief for putting the whole thing together. I feel like I’m in an alternate universe, and I like it.’

Richard added: ‘I’m unbelievably excited about this sketch. The Traitors is the most brilliant reality show of all time, and I hope that we can mercilessly tear it apart.

‘There’s a very impressive group of actors who gathered together to destroy the reputation of Claudia Winkleman and the BBC in aid of Comic Relief.’

Season one of The Traitors came to a nail-biting end in December 2022 with Faithfuls Hannah Byczkowski, Aaron Evans and Meryl Williams emerging victorious after exposing Wilf as a Traitor at the very last moment.
