Emeli Sande ‘cancels wedding plans’ after one year engagement to girlfriend

Singer Emeli Sande has been forced to cancel her wedding plans due to the star's 'busy schedule.'

The 36 year old announced she was engaged to her classical pianist girlfriend, Yoana Karemova, in September last year, just six months after Emeli revealed she was a part of the LGBT community and in a same-sex relationship with Yoana.

However, speaking to The Metro, Emelia admitted that things are uncontrollably on hold for now.

She said on her wedding setbacks: "We’ve kind of put them on hold until I get this album out and we do the shows this year but we’ll probably start planning next year or early next year."

OK! has contacted Emeli's reps for further comment.

Emeli showed off her dazzling diamond and ruby ring to fans on social media last year, revealing to fans that she "said yes!" She then continued to tell the very cool and casual way that Yoana proposed.

"I was driving. I was indicating to turn left and she proposed — very cool, nonchalant. She said, 'Well, what do you say — will you be my wife?' And she opened out this beautiful ring."

The stunning ring also prompted plenty of comments from friends and family at the time, including some famous faces, too.

TV presenter Zoe Ball said: Congrats gorgeous girls" followed by some rose emojis and Dame Kelly Holmes commented: "Congratulations, this is so lovely."

When the big day does finally arrive it will be Emeli's second marriage after being previously wed to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine.

After dating for more than a decade and tying the knot in 2012, the couple went their separate ways in 2014.

The Next To Me singer has been very open about her coming out journey and when asked at the time if she considered herself to be bisexual, she said: "I’m not sure what I identify as but I guess so. I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with."

She went on to meet Yoana while studying classical music and admitted that she's 'happier than ever' in her new relationship, adding to social media earlier this year that her 'soulmate' had given her 'the strength she needed.'

Fans were delighted when Emeli also posted a loving picture of the couple, captioned with words of love.

She said: "Feels so good to be in love and I feel happier than ever. I'm deeply touched by all your messages of love and support. Thank you so much for your acceptance and kind wishes.

"Feels like a huge weight has been lifted, here's to a new beginning in truth and happiness."
