Every Harry Potter Kiss Ranked From Worst To Best

When you think of a movie series like the Harry Potter franchise — one filled with magic and curses and witches and wizards — you probably don’t think of romance. However, there is actually a pretty long-standing romantic theme throughout most of the Harry Potter movies, and as hardcore fans of the series know, there are also certain couples whom you can’t help but root for.

And while most of the characters in all the Harry Potter movies start the franchise as mere pre-teens, by the time the movies wrap up, they’re adults and some are even married with kids of their own in a flash-forward scene. So to see all their romantic scenes, both sweet and awkward, over the years is pretty fun. That said, looking back on the series it’s also entertaining to witness all the characters’ kisses and watch just how much they’ve grown and evolved. So, if you want to know every Harry Potter kiss ranked from worst to best, then keep reading, because there are probably some you forgot even happened.

This imagined kiss was the most cringe-worthy of the Harry Potter franchise

Every fan of Harry Potter knows that Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger — played by the stunning Emma Watson — belong together. So, in the second-to-last movie of the franchise when Hermione and Harry Potter seemingly share a passionate embrace, it’s pretty hard to watch. But, everything is not as it seems, especially where this kiss is concerned.

Specifically, in this scene during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Voldemort’s torture of Ron includes giving him a vision of Harry and Hermione kissing, very awkwardly, while completely naked. Obviously, that’s Ron’s worst nightmare, and it might just have been the audience’s as well. It’s super uncomfortable to watch and was considered to be extremely controversial when it premiered in theaters. Even before the movie premiered, when clips of the nude scene began circulating online, parents were outraged, as Screen Rant reported. Clearly, the kiss was hated by pretty much everyone, making it the absolute worst in all of Harry Potter.

This Harry Potter kiss between Ron and Lavender was just plain awkward

As tends to be the case with teenagers, the characters on Harry Potter aren’t immune to getting a little rowdy or fooling around with other teens during a party. After all, they’re at a boarding school and full of hormones, so who could blame them? But things take a pretty awkward turn when one main character meets a girl who totally rocks his world.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ron Weasley spends most of his time in the movie acting like a jerk, likely due to his new position on the Quidditch team which gives him newfound popularity. And that newfound popularity also lands him his first real girlfriend, Lavender Brown. Lavender is a sweet girl, but she’s a little too obsessed with Ron, and their kiss after a magnificent quidditch match is both sloppy and messy — they could use some kissing tips. Additionally, the fact that fans already knew at that point that Ron and Hermione Granger belonged together just makes this kiss one of the worst in the franchise.

Ron's passionate lip-lock with the wrong person was one of Harry Potter's funniest kisses ever

Because the characters in Harry Potter are pretty much all witches and wizards, what might be considered normal teenage hijinks typically are a lot more complicated in Harry Potter. And in one kissing scene, Ron Weasley finds himself in a pretty unique situation thanks to some magical juice.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Ron drinks some Polyjuice Potion to disguise himself so he doesn’t get caught at the Ministry of Magic. However, the person he’s disguised as, Reg Cattermole, ends up having a wife, Mary, who is also at the Ministry, and when she sees him, obviously she has no reason to believe he is anyone other than her husband. So, she kisses him. And while they’re kissing, Ron shrinks back to his usual self to the shock and confusion of Mary. It’s definitely a passionate kiss, as Mary thinks she’s kissing her husband, but Ron is too flustered to stop it, resulting in something so awkward it’s hilarious.

Ginny and Dean share a kiss before she and Harry Potter were ever a couple

In the world of Harry Potter, the love lives of the three main characters are obviously important to the plot of the movie. And while Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger have a pretty intense love story, Harry Potter himself ends up with quite a passionate love affair with Ginny Weasley, who almost has a love affair with Dean, another boy at Hogwarts, instead.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry, Ron, and Hermione head to a pub, the Three Broom Sticks. While they survey their surroundings, Harry spots Ginny in a corner booth with Dean. The two look pretty intimate and actually share a kiss while Harry is watching them, but the kiss isn’t really anything special — in fact, it’s pretty tame. Were it not for the fact that Harry and Ginny so obviously belonged together, the kiss could’ve been okay, but because this was an imperfectly paired couple, fans would not consider it one of the best.

This first kiss between Harry Potter and Cho was sweet but tragic

As much as the Harry Potter franchise is a story of good versus evil, it’s also a coming-of-age story as Harry and his friends practically go from kids to adults over the course of all eight films. Because of this, there are plenty of first kisses in the films, some more passionate than others.

As far as first kisses go, Harry’s own first kiss was actually pretty sweet. Sure, you might have expected it to be a little awkward, and it certainly was, but not in the way you’d expect. Harry had been crushing on Cho for a while, and he finally locks lips with her in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, so to say it was a long time coming would be an  understatement. However, as adorable as Harry’s first kiss was, it was also pretty tragic. Cho was still grieving her former boyfriend, Cedric’s, death, so afterwards when Harry tells his friends about it, he describes it as wet because she had been crying. Um, yeah, that’s not what you want from your first kiss with a huge crush.

Harry Potter and Ginny's first kiss was so pure

Dedicated fans of Harry Potter waited until the franchise’s sixth film to finally see Harry Potter get his dream girl — that’s quite a long time — but their first kiss was so magical that it was worth the wait.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry finally gets some intimacy from Ginny Weasley, and it’s just as lovely as you would expect. The two share a moment in the Room of Requirement, and Ginny gets bold. As Ginny backs up from Harry, she whispers to him to close his eyes. When he does, she goes back to him and kisses him with the softest, most tender kiss in cinematic history. Probably, anyway. Seriously, Harry and Ginny’s first kiss was the definition of pure, and though it wasn’t some passionate make-out session, it was still so sweet and showed just how much the two longed for each other.

Harry Potter and Ginny's second kiss was much hotter than the first

In case you were wondering whether or not Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley shared a more intense lip-lock after their first little peck, then this scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 should answer your question. To be fair, Harry and Ginny had a totally normal first kiss that was both awkward and sweet, but their second on-screen kiss shows just how far they’d come since then in their willingness to show affection.

In the scene, Ginny’s brother, Bill, is about to marry his true love, Fleur, and everyone is at the Weasley house to celebrate. When Ginny comes to ask Harry to assist her with her dress, the two can’t help but share a passionate kiss that was then promptly interrupted by Ginny’s brother, George. This time, Ginny and Harry don’t hold back like they do with their first kiss, and their chemistry was palpable. Though not their best, it was a lot more mature than their previous entanglement.

Harry Potter's Arthur and Molly were the perfect couple and shared the sweetest kiss

While the parents of the children in Harry Potter did tend to have pretty intense and important storylines, they were still never the main characters of the franchise. Because of this, it would be easy to forget their own unique love stories they had throughout all the Harry Potter films. Still, perhaps, one of the sweetest and most underrated couples in all of the Harry Potter universe would be Arthur and Molly Weasley, Ron Weasley’s parents.

The pair had been together for seemingly forever, though they were usually too busy taking care of their kids and trying to take down Lord Voldemort to really show any affection. However, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, while Harry Potter visits the Weasley house for the first time, there is a very quick moment where Arthur leans in to kiss Molly on the cheek. It’s nothing wild or crazy, except for the sweet affection of a couple that knows each other and loves each other no matter what. And, so, it’s one of the best kisses in all of Harry Potter, despite its brevity.

Harry Potter and Ginny's kiss before the big battle was everything

Over the course of all the Harry Potter films, the love story between Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley is very slow to develop. But, once those two get together, there’s no stopping them. This becomes quite clear when they’re put in a life-or-death situation and seemingly can’t get their hands off each other for a while.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, things get scary during the Battle of Hogwarts. Voldemort and his dark army have invaded the school campus, and students and teachers alike are left fleeing for their lives. But, of course, Harry and his friends prepare to fight back, to take back the Wizarding world from the dark side. So, when Harry and Ginny see each other before they have to go their separate ways, not knowing if the other will return alive or not, they share a kiss that is equal parts passionate and just plain hot. Seriously, it was about time those two got some sizzle, and with that kiss, it was evident.

This kiss between Ron and Hermione was the Harry Potter series' most passionate and intense

Let’s just get one thing straight: There is one superior couple in the Harry Potter universe, and that is Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The two were at odds throughout the early films of the franchise, making their inevitable romantic involvement that much more enticing to fans. And even when they did warm up to each other, it seemed to take forever to get them to actually show any kind of intimacy toward each other. So when they finally do have that moment, we have to admit that it was worth the wait.

During the Battle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Ron and Hermione are sent on a quest to destroy one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes, and it’s certainly a high-pressure situation. But Ron and Hermione, of course, manage to get it done, and in the midst of a huge battle, with all the adrenaline rushing through their veins, they finally share a passionate and loving kiss. The kiss was known to leave audiences cheering out loud while attending the premiere in theaters, so it’s safe to say this kiss tops the list for obvious reasons.
