Gloria Hunniford’s husband left partially blind weeks after second stroke

Loose Women: Gloria Hunniford reveals kidney stone issues

Gloria Hunniford ’s husband, Stephen Wray, has been left partially blind in his right eye after he had a second stroke and revealed his vision is not expected to return.

The Loose Women panellist’s other half explained he woke up in the morning with blood in his eye and immediately headed to the hospital to see a neurologist.

Speaking to the Mirror, the 78-year-old said: “I woke up in the morning and there was blood in the eye and that was it. I can see a little but not that good.”

Explaining the blood vessel injury, he added: “It is from the heart to the eye, and then from the eye to the brain, so it is damaged. It is the first time I have had something like this with the eye.

“I had to go to hospital – then Northfield [Hospital, West London] and then neurology but thankfully it was not a long wait at A&E.”

Stephen admitted he has been recovering well but shared the experience has been “disorientating”.

He was pictured out with his television and radio presenter wife Gloria, 83, at the Chelsea Flower Show in London on Monday.

The pair appeared in good spirits, with Stephen embracing his wife in his arms as they posed for pictures.

Gloria previously praised the NHS for saving her husband’s life after he was involved in a taxi accident in 2019, leaving the base of his spine fractured.

In 2004, Stephen had a heart attack and in 2012 he had his first stroke after he had been working in the garden.

Gloria said she had a history of strokes in her family and had recognised the signs when her husband stumbled in her bedroom.

She previously shared: “I said did you fall and he went ‘no my arms feels like cotton wool.’

“Well I’ve come from a family of strokes, my dad had a number of strokes and the warning bell went up immediately.”

Gloria added: “So I said to him just lie down for a while on the bed and I’ll ring the GP or something, but as my driver was outside waiting to take me the One Show I didn’t call an ambulance at all and we just got him down the stairs, put him in the car, and went to the hospital.”

Stephen was rushed to hospital where he was treated with thrombolysis to break down blood clots.

The news comes after Gloria revealed she was rushed to A&E before being diagnosed with sepsis of the kidney in March.

The star said she was left “flattened” and “drained of all energy” following the ordeal earlier this year.
