Gwyneth Paltrow's vagina candle explodes in woman's home and causes 'inferno'

One woman has revealed how Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina candle ‘exploded’ in her home.

Gwyneth, 48, left fans pretty baffled last year when she released a candle titled, This Smells Like My Vagina, via her Goop lifestyle brand.

While it may have seemed slightly unusual at first, it went on to sell out on the Goop website and has arguably become a fan favourite over time.

However, one fan got a fright when said candle reportedly caused an ‘inferno’ in their home. Jody Thompson had won the Goop product in an online quiz and claims that it ‘exploded’ with a 50cm high flame when she tried to light it.

Speaking to The Sun, Thompson claimed: ‘The candle exploded and emitted huge flames, with bits flying everywhere. I’ve never seen anything like it.’

She added: ‘The whole thing was ablaze and it was too hot to touch. There was n inferno in the room.’

Thompson said she was able to get the flames ‘under control’ and threw the candle ‘out the front door’, adding: ‘It could have burned the place down.’

While ‘scary at the time’, Thompson says she now finds the whole debacle pretty funny, knowing that Gwyneth’s vagina-smelling candle exploded in her living room.

The candle is currently sold online via Goop and doesn’t come cheap, retailing at £69. It’s made using geranium, citrusy bergamot and cedar, as well as Damask rose, and described online as a ‘funny, gorgeous, sexy and beautifully unexpected scent’.

Previously speaking about the candle, Gwyneth argued that it’s more than a candle, it’s a ‘punk-rock statement’.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, Gwyneth revealed she made the This Smells Like My Vagina candle to challenge the idea that ‘women have been taught to have a certain amount of shame about their body’.

‘If you just light a candle that says This Smells Like My Vagina and put it on the coffee table, it’s kind of a punk rock statement,’ she said.

It was revealed on Goop that the candle had started out as a joke between perfumer Douglas Little and Gwyneth, when they had been working on a fragrance. Apparently, the Iron Man actress blurted out, “Uhhh… this smells like my vagina,” and, well, the candle’s name was born.

Fans will know that there has since been a follow-up to the vagina candle, with Goop now offering customers the chance to purchase a This Smells Like My Orgasm candle.

It’s described on the site as a ‘fitting follow-up to that candle—you know the one’.
