Hugh Grant and his wife Anna donate £20,000 to Britain’s kindest plumber who says the generous Christmas gift is ‘wonderful’
A stunned plumber has revealed how Hugh Grant and his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein donated a staggering £20,000 as a ‘wonderful Christmas gift’.
James Anderson, 55, from Burnley, Lancashire, took to X – formerly known as Twitter – on Thursday to make the announcement as the famous couple headed to Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show in Manchester.
James revealed how Hugh, 63, and Anna, 40, had made the £20,000 donation to his charity DEPHER, which stands for Disabled and Elderly, Plumbing and Heating Emergency Response.
The plumber, who provides free work for elderly and disabled customers, wrote: ‘After speaking privately to @HackedOffHugh and Anna Grant. I have permission to share their wonderful #Christmas gift to @Depheruk.

The kind gesture provoked an outpouring of support to James, with many saying it was ‘hugely generous’ of the couple.
One wrote: ‘Excellent news, some breathing room for you all’.
Others typed: ‘An incredibly generous donation that will do so much good in your hands. The difference this will make to people’s lives.’

His acts of kindness went viral after a picture of his bill for £0 sent to a 91-year-old woman with acute leukemia was posted online.
The receipt for the boiler repair was accompanied by a note reading: ‘No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.’
The handyman, originally from Liverpool, has worked hard to raise funds for the enterprise, using crowdfunding and donations to enable him to help people in need across Lancashire.
The father-of-five said he was inspired to wind down his private work and begin Depher after seeing an elderly man poorly treated by another engineer.
Since 2017, James has provided free or lower-cost plumbing to those in need throughout the winter.

The couple, who share three children together, took their seat next to Tilda Swinton for the star-studded event.
Hugh and Anna wed in 2018 at the Chelsea register office near their £10million west London home.
The couple looked blissfully happy as they posed for photos while arriving for the collection showcase, designed by creative director Virginie Viard.
