‘David said it was love at first sight,’ she said of their connection. ‘It took me a few months but I got there.’
She added: ‘I knew him as the man, David Jones, his real name, and not the rock star.’
Bowie kept his liver cancer battle mostly private, and succumbed to the disease just days after turning 69 which coincided with the release of his 25th and final studio album Blackstar.
A love story: The 66-year-old supermodel told PEOPLE magazine that it was ‘love at first sight’ when she met David on a blind date in Los Angeles years ago and still feels his presence after all this time.
Now nearly five years after his death from cancer, she created her first fragrance, Love Memoir, as a tribute to their ‘epic romance.’
The idea came to her in the throes of grief while she was sequestered in their country house in the mountains in upstate New York, a place that had once been too painful for her to visit.
‘I just got very sad and would rush back to the city,’ she said. ‘I thought I had processed [the loss] but I had not.’
And as many know, the grieving process isn’t linear: ‘There are days that are harder than others but the memories are not all sad of why the person isn’t here. The memories are now of great it was.’

She added: ‘Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had 26 years. So I have that to sustain me.’
Their 21-year-old daughter Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Jones asked if she ever had thoughts of remarrying again.
‘I said “No, I will not.” I still feel married,’ she recalled. ‘Someone a few years ago referred to David as my late husband and I said “No, he’s not my late husband. He’s my husband.”’
Iman also noted: ‘I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets. So in that way he is ever present. Through my memory, my love lives.’
